Exam Details

 

Eligibility:

  1. Current, unrestricted licensure as a registered nurse (RN) or advanced practice nurse (APRN)
  2. At least 2 years’ practice as an RN (for SANE-A exam) / 3 years’ practice (for SANE-P exam)
  3. Completion of a minimum 40-hr SANE didactic course by an accredited provider
  4. Completion of a SANE clinical preceptorship
  5. Accrual of 300 hours of SANE-related practice* within the past 3 years (at least 200 with the intended exam population)
*SANE-related practice = any combination of:
  • providing patient care,
  • taking on-call shifts (even if not seeing a patient),
  • precepting/teaching SANEs,
  • consulting about SANE issues, and
  • engaging in peer review of SANE cases

Certification granted by the Commission for Forensic Nursing Certification (CFNC) is pursuant to a voluntary procedure intended solely to test for special knowledge. The CFNC does not purport to license, to confer a right to privilege upon, nor otherwise to define the qualifications of any person for nursing practice. The significance of certification in any jurisdiction or institution is the responsibility of the candidate to determine. The candidate should contact the appropriate nursing body or institution to determine practice implications.
